Sprouts · ages 5–6
Usually ages 6–7 · Topics follow the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
In first grade, children move from counting to calculating. The Common Core expects them to add and subtract within 20, fluently within 10, understand two-digit numbers as tens and ones, and solve simple word problems.
Number Quest's Sprouts trail covers first sums, counting and comparing. Once sums within 20 feel easy, the Trail (ages 7–9) adds bigger addition and subtraction, missing numbers and reading the clock.
