Pattern games for kids

Spotting patterns is the beginning of algebraic thinking. When a child sees that something repeats or grows by the same amount each time, they are reasoning about rules.

Number Quest asks what comes next or what is missing in patterns that go up or down, including counting in 5s and 10s.

What the questions practise

  • Number patterns going up and down
  • Finding a missing number in a pattern
  • Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s
  • Finding the rule
